Corbis Gathers Notable Voices on Important Photography to Help Celebrate Its 20th Anniversary

SEATTLE (May 20, 2009) - Corbis (www.corbis.com), a leading visual media provider for the creative community, today introduced Storied, an online experience that sheds new light on culturally and historically important photographs from the Corbis collection. Fittingly, Storied helps mark the company's 20th anniversary.

Over the next several months, influential thinkers, writers, heroes, artists, and photographers will uncover hidden truths in iconic images and reframe the historic moments. Their personal insights, expressed through text, audio, or video elements, will reveal hidden truths about the images and illuminate the events, places, and personalities they capture.

With more than 100 million editorial, creative, entertainment and historical images, the Corbis collection is a vital, growing archive of significant personalities, events and the natural world. Storied pays tribute to the importance of photography by pairing celebrated images with reflections from notable voices.

"I've always believed that it's the photographs, not just words, that help us better understand history. Most people won't remember but a few lines from each President – but the pictures stay with us," said Dana Perino, White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush. "I was honored to be asked to participate in the Storied project, and I hope that I shed some perspective on the photographs of President Bush that will give them more context."

"We're so proud to share our family's legacy," said featured commentator, Amanda Wright Lane, great-grandniece of the Wright Brothers. "Storied is a unique project because we're able to share personal stories about our family's historic moments documented in Corbis images. It was so wonderful to hear my brother tell the story behind the image that captured the flight of the world's first successful airplane."

Storied launched today with:
• Photographer Henry Diltz talking about shooting The Doors' Morrison Hotel album cover;
• Author Fran Lebowitz telling the story behind some of Andy Warhol's iconic polaroids;
• Dana Perino, White House Press Secretary during George W. Bush's presidency, talking about Mr. Bush and an historic meeting of five presidents;
• Chad McQueen sharing stories about his father, actor Steve McQueen, and the making of some of his films including The Great Escape;
• Longtime Johnny Cash manager Lou Robin reminiscing about the groundbreaking Johnny Cash show;
• Sir Jackie Stewart recapping some of his most amazing moments in his Formula One race car driving career;
• Amanda Wright Lane and Steve Wright discussing the revolutionary achievements of their great-great uncles, The Wright Brothers.

Commentator Biographies

Henry Diltz, Photographer
Henry Diltz has provided the photography for over 100 record album covers, including the iconic cover for the Doors' Morrison Hotel. He was the official photographer for Woodstock, and the Monterey and Miami Music Festivals. Diltz is also a musician, having played with the Modern Folk Quartet.

Fran Lebowitz, Author
Fran Lebowitz is a New York-based author and essayist. She worked as a columnist for Andy Warhol's Interview magazine. She is the author of Metropolitan Life, Social Studies and the children's book Mr. Chas and Lisa Sue Meet the Pandas.

Lou Robin, Manager, Johnny and June Carter Cash
Lou Robin started producing and promoting concerts for Johnny Cash in 1969 and became his manager in 1973. Robin worked with Cash until the singer's death in 2003, and continues to handle business affairs for the Johnny Cash estate.

Dana Perino, White House Secretary
Dana Perino was the White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush from September 14, 2007 to January 20, 2009. Prior to that she was Deputy White House Press Secretary and held other high-level government communications roles. She remains close to President Bush.

Chad McQueen, Film producer and the son of actor Steve McQueen
Chad McQueen, Steve McQueen's son, is a film producer and has acted in over 20 films, including the Karate Kid. He was also a natonal race car champion and a national champion motorcycle racer.

Sir Jackie Stewart, Formula One Race Car Driver
Sir Jackie Stewart is one of the most successful drivers in the history of auto racing. He competed in Formula One racing between 1965 and 1973, winning three World Drivers' Championships. His 27 Grand Prix wins were unequaled for 20 years after his retirement. He is also one of racing's most recognized broadcasters.

Amanda Wright Lane, Great-grandniece of the Wright Brothers
Amanda Wright Lane is the great-grandniece of Orville and Wilbur Wright, and works to preserve the story of her famous family's contribution to aviation history. She is a trustee for the Wright Family Foundation of the Dayton Foundation.

Steve Wright, Great-grandnephew of the Wright Brothers
Steve Wright is the great-grandnephew of Orville and Wilbur Wright. He is a professional photographer living in Dayton, Ohio.
