Corbis Launches U.S. Election Microsite

With Ever More Emphasis on Campaign Style and Appearance, Corbis Caters to Political Advertising Firms and News Media with Wide Selection of Politically-Related Imagery and Footage

SEATTLE (September 17, 2007) - Corbis (www.corbis.com), a creative resource for advertising, marketing and media professionals, today announced the launch of a new microsite at www.corbis.com/politics focused on meeting the image and footage needs of advertising agencies, campaigns and news media during the 2008 U.S. campaign.

Research predicts that political ad spending for the 2008 election cycle will set records by surpassing the $3 billion mark, an increase of more than 75 percent from the last Presidential election in 2004. In particular, online and newspaper ad spending are expected to increase significantly.

The new Corbis politics page makes it fast and easy to search for and license election-related rights managed (RM) imagery and footage as well as highly-flexible, value priced, royalty-free (RF) imagery that can be bought once and used almost anywhere for any duration. The regularly updated website will provide advertisers and news media with highly-relevant image collections compiled with trends insight from Corbis' Creative Intelligence team.

To support ad and media professionals, the new microsite will match imagery and footage to breaking news and specific events such as national debates and primaries, profile "States to Watch" and highlight hot campaign issues with libraries of related imagery. There will also be simple navigation to photography and footage of national and party symbols, specific constituent groups as well as state flags, national monuments and other Americana.

"Every year elections are more targeted and political consultants need to be able to quickly crank out fresh, demographically-specific communications," said Peter Moran, Chief Operating Officer at Winning Directions, a political direct mail firm and member of the American Association of Political Consultants. "Corbis has a great collection of political imagery that is simple and easy to use, and we rely on them not just for images, but as a creative partner to help us create the most effective direct-mail communications in the business and winning campaigns for our clients."

According to analysis from Corbis' Creative Intelligence team, a significant trend for the 2008 campaign will be issue-based ads, as campaigns and interest groups try to engage voters on specific issues that they may care about such as global warming, healthcare and national security and sway them to candidates with a particular stance on these issues. This trend is being fueled by the recent Supreme Court decision to remove restrictions on so-called "issue ads" typically used by advocacy groups, labor unions, and corporations.

"Successful campaigns know that imagery truly can speak a thousand words about candidates and their view on the issues," said Steve Moss, Vice President, Sales & Service for North America, Corbis. "It is essential that campaign establish a distinct visual signature to successfully break through the clutter and convey a message in today's cluttered media environment."
